Frequently asked questions
At Chiwowwow, we know your Chihuahua is more than just a pet; they're family. We've compiled this list of frequently asked questions to address any concerns you may have and to help you feel confident in choosing us for your Chihuahua's daycare needs.
We are animal lovers and experienced Chihuahua owners. The care your pet receives will be the same as we lavish on our own pets including cuddles, playtime and treats (unless you'd rather we didn't). Ours is a home away from home and we aim to make it as stress-free and comfortable as possible.
How much is a day's care with Chiwowwow?
£30 per dog (up to 10 hours) for full care including walks and being with a kind and attentive human all day, not just in a crate in a boarding kennel. Discounts for second, third pets. Overnight stays are £40 per 24 hours. Discounts for stays over 48 hours.
How do I book a stay?
Just fill in the form on this website and we'll come back to you. Once we agree dates and confirm we have availability, we'll ask for a 25% deposit. The balance will then become due 2 weeks before your dog's stay. If you book within 14 days of the dates required, the full balance is payable.
We take cash and BACS transfer. Receipts can be provided on request.
What happens next?
If it's your pup's first stay with us, and they're all booked in, we'll organise a fur-miliarisation visit next! We want your Chi to feel comfortable during boarding with us and so we'll ask you to drop them off for a 30-minute visit while you have a coffee in one of the nearby cafés. They'll be able to have a good look round (and sniff!) and meet our boy, Teddy, as well as our friendly cats, all to ease any separation anxiety from you.
Should I bring my dog's food for their stay with you?
Yes, please do! Due to potential allergies and dietary needs, we ask that you provide your Chihuahua's food. We will provide bowls and fresh, clean water throughout the day.
Should I bring my dog's bed?
We have lots of comfy places for your gorgeous girl or boy to snuggle up but of course if they'd prefer they're own bed then please feel free to bring their own.
Where will my dog sleep?
We try to mirror exactly the same arrangements that you have at home to ensure your Chi's comfort while he or she is with us. If your dog sleeps in a crate downstairs then we will put them in the spot that you feel is most suited to them. If they prefer to snuggle up with us upstairs in our bedroom, then we'd be happy to have them join us.
What else should I bring?
Any favourite toy or blanket that might give them extra reassurance; their lead and harness although we do have spares; their bed or crate, if you'd prefer them to have them; any wet weather gear and don't forget their toothbrush and paste!
Can you administer my dog's medication?
Absolutely! This will be done in line with the written instructions on the medication and only if it has your dog's name printed on it from the vet. We will not administer anything not prescribed for that particular dog. All medication given will be logged.
Should my dog be vaccinated?
Yes, absolutely. For the safety and well-being of all our furry guests, we require that all dogs are up-to-date on their vaccinations. Please provide proof from your vet as part of the onboarding process.
Will you take other breeds?
Absolutely! If your Chi has a brother or sister which is a small dog, we will happily look after them for you too. However, we are not set up for larger breeds and do not want any Chihuahuas staying with us to feel frightened by larger dogs. We will take other small breeds for one-off home boarding by special arrangement if they meet our criteria - please contact us to discuss.
How do you know all my dog's needs?
Our comprehensive onboarding process makes sure that we have all the information about your Chihuahua to ensure a comfortable stay and care tailored to them and their specific needs. We will ask relevant questions and complete a questionnaire ensuring we know about any triggers, dietary issues or special requests. It is our intention to make their stay with us as near possible to their own home.
Are you easy to find?
Yes! We are situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in Garden Village, Gorseinon. Just put our postcode in your satnav [SA4 4BJ] and it'll take you right to us. We have a spacious driveway so parking isn't an issue and you'll be able to bring in your pet with ease and in total safety - no busy roads or stressful drop offs with Chiwowwow guaranteed!
